Oleg BeneschUniversity of York
Oleg Benesch is Professor of East Asian History at the University of York. His publications include the books Inventing the Way of the Samurai: Nationalism, Internationalism, and Bushido in Modern Japan (Oxford, 2014) and, with Ran Zwigenberg, Japan’s Castles: Citade ls of Modernity in War and Peace (Cambridge, 2019). Patrick HeinrichCa’ Foscari University in Venice
Patrick Heinrich is a professor at the Department of Asian and Mediterranean African Studies at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. Before joining Ca’ Foscari in 2014, he taught for many years at universities in Germany (Duisburg-Essen University) and Japan (Dokkyo University). His present research interests focus on language endangerment, and on linguistic superdiversity in Asian cities. He has edited many books and journal issues. Edited volumes in English include the Handbook of the Ryukyuan Languages (2015), Urban Sociolinguistics (2017), Being Young in Super-Aging Japan (2018), The Routledge Handbook of Japanese Sociolinguistics (2019), Urban Poetics and Politics in Asia (2020), and Decolonizing Methodologies in Japan: Ryukyuan Perspectives for Language Education (2023).
